Missouri Voters Reject Republican-Backed Congressional Map

November 4, 2026 · 1 source

Missouri voters just shot down a Republican-backed congressional map that aimed to oust Democratic Representative Emanuel Cleaver. GOP lawmakers passed the map last year to redraw his Kansas City district and grab an extra House seat for their party. The new lines were part of a national redistricting rush initiated by President Trump before the midterms. Missouri's top court blocked the map from taking effect for the election and put it on the ballot instead, a move the U.S. Supreme Court upheld. Cleaver easily won his reelection race on Tuesday anyway. Meanwhile, Maryland voters approved a constitutional amendment letting Democratic leaders redraw districts for twenty twenty-eight. Colorado voters are also deciding on a ban against maps that purposefully favor any single political party.
