Juan Carlos Ferrero Joins Ben Shelton to Chase Grand Slams

Juan Carlos Ferrero just signed on to coach twenty-four-year-old Ben Shelton. Ferrero previously turned Carlos Alcaraz into a seven-time Grand Slam champion before their sudden split last December. The forty-five-year-old coach plans to cover ten to twelve tournaments next season. He will work alongside Shelton's father and current coach Bryan. That father-son dynamic could prove tricky. Ferrero previously had a six-month stint coaching Alexander Zverev that ended when Zverev fired him. Shelton reached his first major final at the US Open two months ago. However, veteran coach Rick Macci warns that Shelton's backhand remains technically unpredictable. Ferrero will begin working with Shelton during an off-season training block in the United States. He will also watch Shelton on site at next week's ATP Finals in Turin.
