Harriet Dart, 30, stunned the Guangzhou Open by beating 18-year-old Lilli Tagger 4-6 6-3 6-4 to capture her WTA title. She had to qualify before reaching the final, a first at a tour-level event. Dart led twice in the decider, but Tagger erased both leads and forced her to chase the match. She broke at 4-3, held serve, and moved within a game of the title. Dart held two championship points on Tagger's ninth-game service, missed the second, then seized a third with a winner. After falling to the court in joy, Dart celebrated with her team. The win propelled Dart back into the world's top 100, giving her direct entry into the Australian Open main draw. Dart's season is marked by hard-court success: 19 of 24 wins since Wimbledon and a 23-34 overall record. She credits former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli for a boost in confidence and consistency. Tagger, who beat Venus Williams en route to the final, praised Dart's resilience, saying she had an amazing year.
