Ericsson Unveils ISAC Tech To Detect Drones

November 2, 2026 · 1 source

Ericsson says its new technology can track drones using only existing mobile networks. The company calls this system ISAC, which stands for sensing and communications. The setup uses cellular infrastructure to spot flying objects without adding extra hardware. And here is the catch. Mobile networks were never built for aerial surveillance. Ericsson believes cell towers can pick up radio waves bouncing off drone blades. That means telecom operators might soon double as air traffic controllers for low-flying commercial drones.
