Rulli Saves City 4-3 Shootout
October 29, 2026 · 2 sources
Gianluigi Rulli saved two penalties to give Manchester City a 4-3 shootout win over Brighton. The 34-year-old, who returned from Marseille for £1.7 million, also stopped a fingertip shot from Georginio Rutter. The match finished 2-2 before the penalties, a result that had seen Brighton score twice in the first half. Maresca said Rulli knows his role and that the display does not threaten Donnarumma's place. City had made nine changes, having just lost 2-1 to Aston Villa, while Brighton had lost 2-0 to Liverpool. The win sends City into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, where they will face Bradford. Maresca added that the ambition is the same: win games, no matter the competition.
