RFL Backs Jon Wilkin's £30 Million Funding Plea

November 3, 2026 · 2 sources

Former England star Jon Wilkin wants a thirty million pound five year community funding plan for rugby league. New RFL chief executive Ian Nolan just backed that exact plea on Monday. They are asking Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy to fund the social impact project. Australia recently committed two hundred and fifty million dollars over ten years to a similar Pacific initiative. Wilkin argues Britain should show the exact same ambition for deprived northern communities. Nolan took up his new role on October first and points out rugby clubs are already established hubs. The plan arrives after England men and women both crashed out of the World Cup group stage. Former player Ryan Hall criticized that tournament for being slashed from sixteen teams down to just ten. Nolan now hopes to consult rugby greats to map out a fresh future under a new project called One Game, One England.
