Micheaux Roadshow Launches 2027 Touring Program

November 5, 2026 · 1 source

The first indie film tour of the year lands in Los Angeles in April 2027. It launches the Micheaux Roadshow, a traveling theatrical program that will span the United States and select overseas cities. Founder Noel Braham says the tour mirrors Oscar Micheaux's 1919-1948 DIY distribution, when he shipped over forty films by train. Micheaux convinced white theater owners in the segregated South to book his movies, even arranging midnight showings for Black audiences. The Roadshow will showcase both feature-length and short independent films, with no prior festival selection required. Each stop offers a curated evening program, filmmaker Q&As, and introductions to press and industry. The soft launch of the Micheaux Institute precedes its official opening in 2028, home of the annual Micheaux Film Festival. Braham adds, "A screening is one night." "Proof that an audience showed up for your work carries into every room after that."
