Macronix Reports Record Profit Before Ditching Switch ROMs

November 4, 2026 · 1 source

Nintendo's main ROM supplier is officially ditching game cartridges for data centers. Macronix just posted a record-high net profit of roughly $337 million for the third quarter of twenty twenty six. But here is the catch. That money came from data centers, not your favorite games. ROM sales plunged by thirty nine percent over the past year. They now make up just five percent of total sales. CEO Miin Wu says the company is phasing out ROM production entirely. They want to focus on high growth NOR flash solutions instead. Physical media fans might panic, but it is not an immediate doom for collection lovers. Nintendo's upcoming Switch two cartridges will use NAND flash memory from ROHM Semiconductor anyway. Digital purchases already dominate the platform at sixty one point five percent of software sales.
