New game pages on Itch.io doubled in just two months to regularly pass six thousand a day by October thirtieth. The platform heavily implied AI was behind the massive jump. Out of nearly one million seven hundred thousand total listings, over one hundred thirty-one thousand are already tagged as AI generated. Here is the catch. Downloads and purchases have not doubled alongside the listings. The extra pages are just clogging up the store for nobody. People are uploading these vibe-coded projects for social media clout. But players are not actually engaging with them. That leaves storefronts facing a tsunami of junk that could drive users away.
