Epic Games AI Overhaul in Unreal 6

November 5, 2026 · 1 source

Epic Games says its new Unreal Engine 6 will make developers up to four times more productive with AI. The engine, slated for a 2027 launch, will drop the longtime Blueprint visual scripting system. Epic promises an AI-assisted migration to replace those workflows, even though many devs fear the change. CEO Tim Sweeney told Unreal Fest Tokyo the shift will be painful at first but will boost speed dramatically. He added that AI tools are already widening the gap between studios that adopt them and those that don't. Adoption is soaring in China and South Korea, and Sweeney says the trend is unlikely to reverse. Epic believes this AI push will help Japanese developers like Square Enix and Atlus create even greater games. The company is now betting that AI will become the core competitive edge in the game economy.
