Christian Horner Accuses Newey of 'Abandon Ship' in 2014

Christian Horner says in his book that Adrian Newey wanted to abandon Red Bull at the sign of trouble in 2014. Newey, who turned down a Ferrari offer, said he read the book and blamed Renault's power unit for the decline. He signed a contract to stay at Red Bull, splitting time with projects before leaving in 2024 for Aston Martin. Despite the fallout, Newey says he and Horner remain friends, noting he is godfather to Horner's daughter Olivia. Horner praised Newey as designer, but Newey warned a power-unit year matters when the maker shows no intent to fix. Newey said, 'Think 2014, as a chassis designer, if the PU manufacturer has a year, happens and you accept it.'
