Burnley hires Fabio Celestini as new head coach

Burnley's new head coach, 50-year-old Fabio Celestini, arrived just four days after sacking Nicky Hayen. Celestini won a domestic double with FC Basel in 2024-25, taking the Swiss Super League and Cup. He also lifted CSKA Moscow to a Russian Super Cup before leaving by mutual agreement in May. Burnley are 22nd in the Championship, having won only one league game this season. The club lost 4-1 to Lincoln City and has not won at home in over a year. Diego Lopez, now director of football, tasked Celestini to lift the club's ambitions. Celestini says he sees 'big potential' and vows to bring belief from the first whistle. His previous roles include Lausanne, Lucerne, Lugano, and Sion, and he earned 35 caps for Switzerland.
