Avatar: Seven Havens Drops Big Korra Clue

Korra's decision to keep spirit portals open is the real spark behind the Cataclysm. At New York Comic Con 2026, executive producers Sehaj Sethi and Ethan Spaulding explained that each Avatar’s actions ripple forward, and Korra’s refusal to seal the portals after Unalaq opened the southern one set the stage for the Spirit Wilds that overran Republic City. The open gateways let airbending awaken, while Varrick’s discovery of spirit‑vine energy fed Kuvira’s cannon, which Korra halted by unleashing Energy Bending and inadvertently opening a third portal. In the comic “Turf Wars,” that new portal becomes a flashpoint as developers, the Air Nomads and spirits clash, yet Korra still refuses to close it, insisting the spiritual energy will benefit the city. Her stubborn choice has turned the world into a living, breathing battlefield.
