Varda Space Launches Three Capsules While RIKEN Tricks Cancer Cells

November 4, 2026 · 2 sources

Scientists in Japan just tricked cancer cells into building their own executioners using the toxic carbon monoxide tumors produce naturally. Led by Katsunori Tanaka at RIKEN, researchers protected a metal catalyst inside a blood protein carrier to spark drug production only inside malignant tissue. Meanwhile, three washing machine-sized capsules from Varda Space Industries are orbiting three hundred miles above us to grow better cancer drug crystals in weightlessness. Varda launched two of them on October first and the third on October twentieth. Microgravity removes the settling and currents that mess up crystal growth on Earth. This space-grown precision could eventually turn intravenous infusions into simple shots. Back on the ground, Varda plans seven more missions in twenty-seven and another ten in twenty-eight.
