Valve F-Stop Prototype Surfaces Online After Twenty Years
November 2, 2026 · 1 source
A canceled Valve game called F-Stop has finally been reconstructed online after nearly twenty years. It started from material in separate leaks, including an August Steam teraleak and a recent source code acquisition by the Valve Cut Content Team Discord. Gabe Newell shut Valve down for a three month game jam back in two thousand seven. That brainstorm produced five prototypes, and F-Stop used Team Fortress two art styles for an Aperture Science prequel. The catch is that direct access is shaky because that Discord server went private due to the newfound attention. You now need an invite just to play it yourself. Full playthrough videos are already popping up on YouTube for everyone else. Its core mechanic used a camera to capture objects and place them elsewhere to solve puzzles. Viewfinder later used that exact same concept for a full commercial release. Valve loved the game internally, but player tests proved too tepid. They shelved the project entirely, though ideas lived on inside Portal two and Aperture Desk Job.
