Supermarket Freezers Hacked Across Europe Spoil Millions

November 2, 2026 · 2 sources

Hackers remotely cooked supermarket freezers in Europe up to fifty degrees Celsius and ruined millions of euros in food. Dozens of stores across Belgium, Sweden, Luxembourg, and Ireland were hit in the overnight cyber attack. Around forty Delhaize shops were affected in Belgium and Luxembourg alongside stores from ICA and Coop in Sweden. Thirteen SuperValu shops also took damage in Ireland while Carrefour reported fifteen stores caught the breach. One Swedish ICA branch saw freezers dialed up to fifty degrees and had to throw out entire stocks. A single Belgian Delhaize branch lost one hundred thousand euros in ruined produce alone without counting closure costs. This digital sabotage follows a similar wave last month that struck hundreds of French supermarkets. National cyber security agencies in Belgium and Sweden are now monitoring the mess.
