Steve Ellis died at seventy-six on Friday, October 30, after complications from a chronic illness. The English singer led Love Affair, a band that famously knocked the Beatles off the top of the charts in nineteen sixty-seven. Their signature cover of Everlasting Love went straight to number one in the United Kingdom. To promote the track, the band climbed the Eros statue in London and needed firemen for a rescue. That famous recording did not actually feature the rest of the band. Session players supplied the music behind Ellis while a forty-piece orchestra played in the studio. Ellis left the group in nineteen sixty-nine or seventy to pursue other projects and eventually worked on the docks. A forklift accident later crushed his feet and led to years of operations. He eventually returned to music and recorded with artists like Roger Daltrey. His family confirmed his peaceful passing in Brighton with loved ones by his side.
