Netflix Rolls Out AI Discover Test Kitchen

Netflix just gave a handful of users a brand-new AI tab that asks how they feel before suggesting shows. The feature, called AI Discover, lives in a new 'Test Kitchen' tab on the TV app. It lets viewers pick a mood, pick topics and then serves a curated list just for them. Netflix says the experiment will decide which AI recipes make it into the main experience. The rollout comes as the streamer cut roughly 1,000 jobs, about six percent of staff, last month. It also follows the exit of chief content officer Bela Bajaria and the hiring of Disney-Fox exec Peter Rice. Inside the company, engineers and L.A. programmers have been at odds over whether to trust the classic algorithm. They also debate how much control the AI should have over what titles get pushed. AI Discover even lets you block specific series or genres you don't want to see. As Netflix put it, "What sounds right for a quiet night in may look different for family movie night."
