Sony Pays $50,000 to Block GTA 6 Piracy
October 26, 2026 · 1 source
Sony just handed a homebrew hacker $50,000 to keep GTA 6 safe on launch day. The payout followed an AI-boosted PS5 homebrew surge that uncovered a hypervisor exploit. That bug lets hackers bypass the console's core and run pirated games directly from disc. Sony stopped making physical PS5 media, which pushed creators to use Claude-based tools to reverse-engineer older titles. Jordy, known as 2tonejordy, reported the flaw to HackerOne on October 14, 2026 and collected the $50,000 bounty. His disclosure means the exploit won't be usable when GTA 6 drops on November 19, 2026. Some fans blamed him for "simming" Sony, but he said the money will help his terminally ill mother. The twist is that the same AI that sparked the homebrew gold rush also forced the bug to surface early. Fans yelled, "You took GTA 6 away from everyone, then show up with $50,000 saying it's enough to buy the game."
