Dolores Huerta Biopic Moves Forward After Death
October 29, 2026 · 2 sources
The civil rights icon Dolores Huerta, who died at 96, just gave filmmakers a green light on her biopic. Gregory Nava, who co-wrote the script with his wife Barbara, confirmed the screenplay is finished after Huerta's passing. Huerta, a co-founder of the United Farm Workers, inspired the rallying cry "Sí, se puede," later used by Obama. She will also appear posthumously in the short film Blood Money, critiquing ICE detention. Becky G honored her with a heartfelt tribute, calling her "one of the greatest labor leaders of our time." Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012, recognizing her lifelong fight for farmworkers' rights. Nava and his wife Barbara were by Huerta's side in her final moments in Bakersfield, saying goodbye.
