Discord Makes Public Server Messages Searchable on the Web

Discord messages in large public servers will soon show up in web search results. This major update hits in mid-December according to one report, while another puts the date at November sixteenth. The change only affects discoverable servers with over one thousand members. Private chats and direct messages remain completely safe from web crawlers. Your usernames and avatars will not appear alongside these indexed chat messages. Only accounts belonging to adults will have their public messages pulled into searches. Server admins can choose specific channels for web visibility or opt out entirely. Individual users can also block their own chat logs through the privacy settings menu.
