Democrats Lead 8-Point, Trump 40%
October 27, 2026 · 2 sources
One in three Americans say they've hit a financial wall in the year, even Shun Maurice from Arizona can't ignore. But the new NPR/PBS-Marist poll shows Democrats still hold an 8-point lead on the generic congressional ballot among likely voters. That edge comes after the last census and redistricting, which have tilted seats toward Republicans. Meanwhile, Trump's approval sits at 40%, with 59% disapproving and 53% strongly disapproving. Yet 98% of Democratic likely voters would vote for a Democrat, though only 81% think they'll win. A majority-55%-feel the election is a chance for change, and 55% say their vote will be against Trump. With one in three facing hardship and a 40% Trump approval, the midterms test change versus status quo.
