Peter Molyneux Confesses 12% Gamer AI Aversion
Peter Molyneux just admitted that 12 percent of gamers say they'd never buy a title that uses AI. The figure comes from a recent survey he cited. He blamed the backlash on ChatGPT and Gemini's early releases of 10-fingered hand images. Those images turned AI into 'slop' in the public mind. Molyneux warned that Steam's checkbox forces studios to declare AI use. If checked, he estimates 12 percent of buyers walk away and a further 18 percent may avoid the game. He insists that coding without AI is nearly impossible; every game released last year has leaned on generative tools. He argues AI is the biggest creative boost for studios of all sizes. He cites how concept art that once took weeks can now be generated in minutes. A fully rigged zombie prototype can be coded in a day instead of months. He predicts that within a year Unity and Unreal will embed AI so deeply that avoiding it will be impossible. The interview took place in Guildford, England.
