Shatner posted a tribute to Walter Koenig, the 90-year-old actor who made Chekov the heart of Star Trek. He said they didn't know each other well off-set but had shared the final two seasons and six films. Koenig was cast in season two and stayed through season three. He later appeared in 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture and seven films, ending with 1994's Star Trek Generations. Shatner praised Koenig's love for fans. He rarely stayed behind a signing table but instead mingled with fans at conventions, a rare genuine connection. George Takei echoed the sentiment. He said they were friends for nearly six decades. Koenig was a writer, teacher, thoughtful man and loyal friend. Shatner concluded with condolences to Koenig's family, friends, and countless fans whose lives he touched. He added, "He loved you too."
