OpenAI and Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund just poured $45 million into a brain‑implant startup that can sniff out cancer. The company, Coherence Neuro, aims to decode tiny electrical signals from tumors and even fire mild stimulation to stop growth. What most people miss is that the $45 million seed round also includes OpenAI’s venture arm. OpenAI’s contract specifically bars it from accessing any brain or health data the implant gathers. Coherence already tested the device for about thirty minutes in three patients during tumor‑removal surgery at Melbourne’s Royal Hospital. Next week it will record and stimulate in seven more volunteers, moving toward a glioblastoma trial. Ben Woodington says AI is a perfect fit for brain‑computer interfaces. He adds the raw neural data is too massive for humans to analyze. Ian Hathaway of the OpenAI Startup Fund summed it up, calling the approach ‘incredibly innovative’.
