EA Restructures, Shuts BioWare, Cancels Sims, Hints Battlefront 3
October 21, 2026 · 3 sources
EA just announced it will shut down BioWare and cancel a new Sims project while trimming staff. The restructuring memo, dated July 2024, also flags a wave of layoffs across the company. In a surprising twist, EA hinted that Respawn Entertainment and DICE are teaming up on Star Wars Battlefront 3. Variety cited multiple sources saying the sequel would feed EA’s goal of a ‘shooter portfolio that unlocks growth.’ The memo adds that lessons from Battlefield 6’s launch and live‑service model will shape that strategy. Apex Legends will also get new gameplay modes and other experiences, according to the same document. DICE previously delivered the 2015 and 2017 Star Wars Battlefront games, with Battlefront 2 sparking a loot‑box backlash. Yet last year the title saw a player resurgence, reviving hopes for a third installment. Lucasfilm Games is reportedly scouting partners, with DICE and even Bungie mentioned as possibilities. If Battlefront 3 moves forward, it could become the flagship shooter EA leans on after the cuts.
